Until one is committed, there is always hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness. Concerning all acts of initiative and creation, there is one elementary truth, the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: the moment one definitely commits oneself, then Providence moves too. All sorts of things occur to help that would never otherwise have occurred. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising to one’s favor all manner of unforeseen accidents and meetings and material assistance which no man could have dreamed would come his way. Whatever you can do or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it.”
– Goethe
A Mondo:
Monk – I understand that when a lion meets his opponent, whether it is a rabbit or an elephant, he makes an exhaustive use of its power. Pray tell me what that power is.
Master – The spirit of sincerity.
I continue to be amazed at the power of sincere commitment – to anything, whatever it is. It seems so easy it’s almost tragic. ‘Tragic’ because for some reason so many people don’t see it. We’ve all heard, “What we think about comes about”. Similarly, what we sincerely commit to, with an exhaustive use of our power, without a shadow of a doubt…just happens.
In the beautifully succinct language and spirit of Zen, that is enough words – “When you are deluded and full of doubt, even a thousand books of scripture are not enough. When you have realized understanding, even one word is too much.”
1. Set aside the time to create your vision for what you want in this life. Not what someone else says you want, not what society or the media says you should want…what YOU want.
2. Create a DMO (Daily Method of Operation) that will bring this vision into reality and that you can sincerely commit to.
3. Do it every day! Without exception, without doubt, without hesitancy, without excuse, without fail.
Sincerely commit to it and it will happen. You have the time. You have no excuses. You deserve it. Make it happen.
Let me know if there is anything I can do to help you 🙂
